‘Chez Renee – ik en erotiek’ is a project with drawings, paintings, video and performance. It premiered on the 19th of March, 1988, in the Avantgrade Gallery, Antwerp Belgium.
The video accompanied the performances 'Je Suis Regardée' at the opening in Antwerp, and 'La Belle Morte' in the Campo Santo chapel in Ghent, on april 1st, 1988.
The title of the project, 'Chez Renee', seems like the name for an erotic cabinet, and that connotation is intentionally...
Renee Lodewijckx, Ghent 1988/ Ostend 2017
The soundtrack for this project was composed between October 1987 and February 1988. The words were written by Renee Lodewijckx and myself, inspired by a.o. Nancy Friday, Emma, Paul Verlaine, Joan Jonas.
Everything was recorded on a Fostex 250 4-track recorder in Hertogstraat 13 and Ipem Studio Gent. The main instruments were a Roland TR-505 drummachine and a Korg Poly 800 keyboard.
The music was released on cassette in March 1988 (100 numbered copies), as part of the presentation package of the project.
In 2016, the tape was digitalized (by Rudy De Keyser, dK studio) and then I remastered and remixed it, into one long piece as it was always meant to be.
Also the video was restored, and the whole package (CD+DVD+booklet with liner notes and art) was released by EE Tapes - in collaboration with STROOM.
